Pura Ulun Danau Bratan: water temple

Leaving Munduk in Bali, travelling on to Sanur, we visited the beautiful Hindu-Buddhist temple of Pura Ulun Danau Bratan on the shores of Lake Bratan. On the way, we stopped at the nearby twin lakes of Tamblingan and Buyan.

The temple of Pura Ulun Danau Bratan is an important place for pilgrims from all over Bali, so there’s every chance you’ll see groups of people celebrating when you visit. Although predominantly a Hindu complex, there are some Buddhist stupas and statues here, and a mosque nearby too, illustrating the (mostly) tolerant, religious diversity to be found on Bali.

Bali is a stunning island, with so much to offer off the beaten path. As well as beautiful beaches and bottomless beers, there are peaceful green vistas, mist-shrouded valleys, many temples to soothe your spirit, and some fabulous diving to thrill your senses. Beautiful Bali is well worth spending at least two or three weeks exploring its different aspects.
